Workshops & Supply List

Below I'll be posting some of the materials I use and specific colors and tools I would encourage you to use. Bring all paint, brushes, knives, and mediums you wish that are not odorous or noxious to others. Never bring turpentine the schools or I will supply the least offensive non allergic solvents. For those of you who do not wish to use solvents at all-I suggest you try water soluble oils which can be cleaned in soap and water. Linseed oil is a natural substance as are many of the pigments used;I like Holbein's brand best. I you insist on acrylic that's okay by me but I think you'll prefer the water soluble oils as they give you many more options. Be sure to bring these items:

Travel Easel

Artwork Essentials makes the best travel/plein air easels bring what you have but if you wish to upgrade to one of the lightest most useful easels this is the one I recommend.

I recommend round shouldered trowel types.

Painting Surface

I recommend painting on panels - the surface is wonderfully smooth.  Size and number:  two (2) 9x12, (2) 11x14 and two (2) 12x16.  These can be canvas, linen, panels - whatever you're comfortable with.  They make some new surface type economy panels I like too. Check with me about each workshops requirements as these will vary as to what you'll need to bring along.

Other Useful Items

Viva Brand paper towels & Q-tips

Please use odorless mineral spirits instead of turpentine.

You will all need a watertight solvent container-get the bets you can-this means mail order normally-I like Holbeins container but another company makes a good one-look for a well constructed one with good rubber seals and locks.

Please email me with any questions you might have.
